- 4 shallots, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons butter or extra virgin olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- A pinch of sugar
- A splash of white wine (optional)
- Toasted almonds, for garnish (optional)
- Crumble bacon, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Start by washing the green beans and cutting off the ends.
- In a skillet, melt the butter or heat the olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the thinly sliced shallots and sauté until they are soft and translucent, about 2-3 minutes.
- Toss in the trimmed green beans, season with salt and pepper, and pour in a splash of water.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer and cover the pan.
- Cook the green beans for about 8 minutes, or until they are tender but still crisp.
- Remove the cover and continue cooking for an additional 6 minutes, until the pan is dry and the shallots are jammy.
- Finish by adding more salt, pepper, and a bit of sugar. Stir well and serve.
Notes
For enhanced flavor, consider adding garlic, Parmesan cheese, crispy bacon bits, or a drizzle of vinegar.
