Description

Ingredients

  • 4½ cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1½ cups Warm Water (110-115°F)
  • 1 packet Instant Dry Yeast
  • 2 tablespoons Light Brown Sugar
  • 2½ teaspoons Kosher Salt
  • ⅔ cup Baking Soda
  • Melted Butter (for brushing)
  • Kosher Salt (for sprinkling)

Instructions

  1. Combine warm water, yeast, and brown sugar; let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add flour and salt; mix and knead until smooth (about 5-7 minutes).
  3. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 30-60 minutes until doubled in size.
  4. Prepare a baking soda bath with water and baking soda; bring to a boil.
  5. Preheat the oven to 450°F.
  6. Divide dough into 8 pieces, then cut each into 1-inch pieces.
  7. Boil each piece in the baking soda bath for 30 seconds, then place on a baking sheet.
  8. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with kosher salt.
  9. Bake for 15-18 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

Optional toppings include cinnamon sugar, cheese, or everything bagel seasoning. Dipping sauces such as mustard or cheese sauce can enhance flavors.
